Qantas to clarify redundancy offer for Sydney airport staff

Qantas will write to hundreds of staff at Sydney International Airport to further clarify a voluntary departure package it has offered to workers there as part of its plan to cull 5000 jobs at the airline.

After spending Monday morning at the Fair Work Commission in Sydney with Australian Services Union, the airline agreed to write to around 230 full-time employees at the airport terminal who have been offered voluntary redundancy.

The union had taken the airline to the commission saying it had not acted properly under the terms of the enterprise agreement it had with staff.

Staff had been told they had until next Friday, 21 March, to say whether they want to either take a voluntary departure package from Qantas, or convert from full-time work to part time.
